The Ashford Arms, Ashford in the Water (one of the prettiest villages in the whole of the Peak District), is a traditional village pub with rooms that overlook the river Wye. We had a beautiful nights stay here and with many walks right on the doorstep with spots such as Bakewell and Chatsworth also it is the perfect Peak District stop for hikers and tourists alike.

About the place
The Ashford Arms is a historic 17th Century coaching inn offering 9 boutique rooms sleeping a maximum of two in each. Breakfast is included with all of the stays and this is probably one of the best breakfasts that we have had in the Peak District. Downstairs there’s a warm bar that is full of character and restaurant serving seasonal, locally sourced food. you are greeted with stone fireplaces, wood-burning stoves and a conservatory with a retractable roof.

The room layout includes 7 Deluxe Double rooms, 1 Junior Suite and 1 Full Suite, which is what we had for the night and this is a perfect room for that special occasion. The Full Suite has a super king bed and a free standing bath right in the bedroom. There is on-site parking, just be sure to enter your registration upon checking in, and WiFi throughout the building.

The village of Ashford in the Water is what you would call a perfect picturesque village in the Peak District. You will enjoy just stepping out of the Ashford Arms and exploring the immediate area with the famous Sheepwash Bridge just a short stroll away over the River Wye. For walkers it’s a brilliant base: the Monsal Trail is right on the doorstep for an easy, flat walk or cycle. You have Bakewell and Chatsworth nearby and this is one of our favourite circular walks to do. If you fancy a walk further out you could also visit Magpie Mine.

In a heartbeat. It’s the kind of place that just works, gorgeous village, comfy room, brilliant food and plenty of walks on the doorstep. Perfect for a walking weekend or a special night away, and we’ll definitely be back for a post walk refuel.
