Set right across from the famous Padley Gorge, The Maynard is in a great location to hit this spot before the crowds arrive.

About the place
We have passed The Maynard many times, it’s a very imposing building and instantly recognisable. From the outside it looks very high end and we were unsure whether ‘walkers’ would be the type of audience they’d want in, but on checking in we found that staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and the beer garden was just what we needed after a long day in the hills. They serve great food with locally sourced ingredients including estate venison and foraged woodland mushrooms.

We stayed in a family room with a king size bed and a single bed in a separate room, which would make this a great choice for a couple with a child. The room was very comfortable, spacious and the corner bath with the woodland and far reaching views made for a very relaxing night. They have 19 different rooms from suites to singles to choose from, so theres something to suit everyone. The decor and detail in the communal areas were beautiful with many old features including stained glass windows looking out onto the amazing beer garden.
