Join free to downloadChatsworth House is one of the most recognisable homes in the UK, so if you’re visiting the Peak District our Chatsworth House to Edensor & Beeley riverside walk is definitely one you should add to your list.
What to expect
Most of this walk is through the beautiful parkland setting on the Chatsworth Estate, you’ll often come across sheep and if you’re lucky, you might even deer enjoying the grounds as you walk through, not just one either, there’ll be lots of them if you do manage to spot them.
Dogs do need to be kept on leads through here as even when you think there aren’t any animals about, they most likely are and your dog will spot them so much quicker than you. The grounds are huge and you can walk over most of it, but you do have to pay for the house and gardens, you can often buy tickets at the gate if you do fancy it when you’re there.
Getting there & parking
Park in the main Chatsworth House car park for this one, DE45 1PP. Chatsworth House is between Bakewell, Chesterfield and Matlock.

The route
Starting at Chatsworth House, first head around the shops in the stable yard, grabbing a coffee at one of the coffee bars or by heading straight to the pretty village of Edensor, where you’ll also find another tea rooms. Walk around this pretty village and marvel at all the beautiful houses here before heading back through the parkland to pick up the riverside path. You’ll pass weirs, and an old watermill before crossing the road bridge and walking through the field the other side to get to Beeley. You’ll simply head the same way back when you’re ready.
Tips & what to bring
We often see people swimming in The River Derwent here, soil you fancy it, pack your swimmers. Chatsworth do have a number of events on throughout the year and especially during the country fair, some footpaths are closed so do double check before heading here. The Christmas market is great, it is often held in November / early December, it’s free entry but car parking is often much higher during this time.
Eat & drink nearby
There are lots of options on this walk including the restaurant in the stable yard, tea rooms at Edensor and a country pub and cafe in Beeley. We actually haven’t tried any of these options yet as this is one of the walks we love taking a picnic on to enjoy by the river. If you don’t mind a little drive out after your walk, The Peacock at Rowsley do great food and you can enjoy it in their lovely garden.
