Nine Ladies Circle & Cork Stone On Stanton Moor

If you’re looking for a short easy walk with far reaching views and without the crowds then our Nine Ladies Circle Walk at Stanton Moor is perfect.

What to expect

This route is mainly flat but with lots to see. You’ll start the walk in woodland before to opens up to moorland with amazing views across to Darley Bridge and Wensley. There are lots of points to look out for on this one including the Cork Stone, Reform stone, Nine Ladies Circle & the King Stone, as well as a trig point with 360 views.

A great option for anyone wanting a quiet option, this place is amazing all year round, but especially in heather season.

Getting there & parking

There’s a small free car park across from Birchover Stone, DE4 2BN and also limited parking along the roadside. Although this is typically a quiet road please respect locals and farm gates, never block access.

The route

This is a circular route that takes you through woodland, past the Cork Stone and over moorland towards the Reform tower and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle before looping back round via the trig point and back to the start.

Tips & what to bring

This is a great spot for sunrise and sunset as there are far reaching views in every direction, it’s also typically a quiet spot meaning you can avoid the crowds on busier days. Some of the paths were quite overgrown when we last visited but still very easy to follow.

Eat & drink nearby

The village of Birchover is only a short walk from the car park where you’ll find 2 pubs, The Red Lion and The Druid Inn. The towns of Bakewell and Matlock are also only a short drive away.
