The George Hotel, Hathersage

This hotel absolutely blew us away! Everything from the building and location to the staff and food was exceptional. If you’re ever in the area, you have to go, we would recommend this place to everyone.

About the place

The George is a historic 500 year old coaching inn, it offers the perfect blend of old world charm and modern comfort with 24 boutique style en suite rooms from singles to the most amazing suite, it has something for everyone. Downstairs, there is a pub & restaurant serving the most delicious food all day, everything from wood fired pizzas to fillet steak and amazing triple cooked chips, we know we’ll be coming back here time and time again.

The space

We stayed in the suite, fancy we know, but this is by far the most comfortable and biggest bed we’ve ever slept in. We would definitely recommend this room for a special occasion and the roll top bath was the icing on the cake. There are other room types available, from a snug room suitable for 1 adult, to a family room that sleeps 3 adults and 1 child. The George has guest parking at the back and a hidden courtyard garden for food & drink, so you don’t need to be staying the night to enjoy the food on offer here.

Location & walks nearby

The George is in the centre of Hathersage meaning you can leave the hotel and you’re right in the heart of the village. If you want a nice walk, maybe the stepping stones loop along the river Derwent would be good or the short walk upto Little Johns Grave in the churchyard. If you’re looking for a bigger walk close by, the Cave Dale circular and sunset at Bamford Edge are some of our favourites. The beautiful market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House are only a short drive away.

Would we go back?

We would 100% go back, we absolutely loved it here and will definitely be back for a post walk refuel.
