⚠️ What we'd flag
Keep dogs and children away from the edge

Curbar Edge is the perfect place to walk after a long day when you just want to get out for an hour or two. This route takes you across the edge and back again making it super easy to follow but with amazing views across the valley below.

What to expect

With it being the highest point around, this walk will give you amazing views and a dramatic gritstone edge one side and open moorland views the other.

The path here is well trodden, super easy to follow and good year round. There are many deer that frequent this edge so its well worth keeping your eye out for these on this walk too, we love seeing them.

This is a simple out and back route, taking you from the car park across Curbar Edge and onto Frogatt Edge before turning around and heading back the way you came.

Step-by-step

  1. From the car park, looking down the road towards Calver you will have Baslow Edge on your left and Curbar Edge to your right, head right.
  2. Follow the footpath through the gate.
  3. Once through you will be walking along Curbar Edge, you can get closer to the edge to see the views if you like or stick to the main path and follow it along.
  4. The path you start on is the one you will stick with on this route.
  5. If like us you're visiting for sunset, you can either find a nice spot to sit or walk across the edge until its time to turn back.
  6. Our turn back point was the stone circle just under 2 miles in.
  7. To get back to the start, simply return the way you came.

Tips & what to bring

The temperatures up here can be deceiving, as it’s quite an exposed edge with no shelter it can get very windy and cold, meaning you can easily get caught out in bad weather, make sure you pack extra layers and waterproofs. If you’re coming here to watch the sunset, a flask of something warm would be the perfect accompaniment to your evening.
