Breakfast buns made with the farm’s own buffalo and pork, eaten looking out over their water buffalo and alpaca.

What is it?
Buffalo & Co. Kitchen is the food side of Oakleys Farm, a working water buffalo farm in Dilhorne, near Cheddleton. They do breakfast and lunch, built around meat raised on the farm. Seating is indoors in a tipi or outside at tables looking over the animals, and it’s genuinely cool watching the water buffalo and alpaca while you eat. There’s a farm shop on site too, selling their own buffalo steaks, burgers, sausages and mince. Breakfast and lunch only run Thursday to Sunday, closed Monday to Wednesday.

What we had
We went for the Farmhouse Sausage Bun and the Butchers Bacon Bun, both Β£7.25, a smashed patty or smoked streaky bacon with a free-range omelette egg and melted cheese in a toasted potato bun, plus a Β£3.50 portion of hash browns to share. Good, and worth it for the price. We’ll be back to try the buffalo smash burgers next time.

We paired this with the Chained Oak walk at Oakamoor, a couple of miles away. Deep Hayes Country Park near Cheddleton isn’t far either.
