The George hotel is right in the centre of Hathersage and serves some of the best food we’ve ever eaten in the Peak District.

What we had

We ordered pie of the day and a pizza from their wood fired pizza oven. The pie was steak and Guinness and this was amazing, a huge pie and chunky triple cut chips. The pizza – peach, prosciutto and blue cheese, it was delicious and honestly we don’t think a ham and pineapple is ever going to cut it the same. Prices were very reasonable for the area and like we mentioned earlier, it really was some of the best food we’ve eaten in the Peak District, we left very happy.

Walks nearby

The George is in the centre of Hathersage, meaning you can leave the door and you’re right in the centre of the village. If you want a nice walk, maybe the stepping stones loop along the River Derwent would be good or the short walk upto Little John’s grave in the churchyard. If you’re looking for a bigger walk close by, the Cave Dale circular from Castleton and sunset at Bamford Edge are some of our favourites. The beautiful Chatsworth House and the market town of Bakewell are only a short drive away.
