camping around a camp fire

Deciding what we pack in our bags for a day hike will change slightly on each time depending on distance, weather and the route itself. for example, some hikes might have lots of villages on route for the top up of supplies, to call in for a drink etc, other might be fully self sufficient – this should always be a consideration on every hike. Below you will find our hiking and camping packing checklist, we hope this helps when planning your trip.

Our Day Hike Essentials

  • A 20/30l backpack each (with waterproof cover)
  • Water – stay hydrated
  • Food & snacks – keep your energy up
  • A waterproof coat
  • A warm layer
  • A headtorch
  • A powerbank
  • A seat mat – this makes snack stops so much more enjoyable
  • See our camera and filming essentials here [insert link to our camera set up]
  • Our swimming stuff & a lightweight microfibre towel

Our Camping Essentials

Again this list will change slightly depending on the route, length of trip and weather but as a guide this is what we would take with us – this is on top of the hiking essentials above, that we take on every hike.

  • A 40-50l backpack – don’t go too big, you’ll end up packing far more than you need.
  • A tent
  • Sleeping mat
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping bag liner
  • Extra layers including spare socks, thermals and a thick hat.
  • Jetboil stove
  • Meals, not just snacks – usually the dehydrated packs
